Canada-Wide Science Fair: Recognizing student excellence in water analysis and collaboration

The 2026 Canada-Wide Science Fair will be held in Edmonton May 23-30, bringing together almost 400 young scientists from across the country to showcase research findings and innovative solutions on topics including environmental sciences, engineering and more.
The theme of this year’s Science Fair is “Discover. Innovate. Inspire.”, sparking curiosity and initiative essential to new discoveries. Participants will compete for several different awards at the event, and nearly $1.3 million in prizes, scholarships and opportunities are granted each year. As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting young innovators, COSIA, the innovation arm of Oil Sands Alliance, is proud to sponsor two awards at this year’s fair. COSIA Water Quality Analysis in Technologies Award
The COSIA Water Quality Analysis in Technologies Award celebrates the project that dives into water science with curiosity, creativity, and rock‑solid scientific methods to understand what story the data is telling about the environment the water came from. Through research, monitoring, and innovative technologies, COSIA helps advance knowledge and supports responsible water management across the oil sands industry. The winning project will demonstrate clear scientific thinking and use tools, techniques or technology to solve a problem or analyze data.
COSIA Collaboration in Innovation Award (Junior, Intermediate and Senior)
Great ideas aren’t developed in isolation; they spark when people share perspectives, mix social and physical science, and build solutions together. The COSIA Award for Collaboration in Innovation celebrates a project where collaboration wasn’t just helpful; it was essential. The winning project will show strong leadership, genuine teamwork, and creative problem‑solving grounded in thoughtful qualitative data to solve a scientific problem. A project that proves that when many minds contribute their curiosity and creativity, innovation grows. Just as the winning project will thrive on shared ideas, COSIA brings people together to tackle complex environmental challenges through collaboration and innovation. This award will honour a project where teamwork is the true catalyst for discovery.
